Fฺarm to Forest: Burmese Refugees Donation Update
From time to time, we run a donation pool for causes that are dear to us, and we report the result back to you here so you know what we’ve been up to.
In the second quarter of this year, from April to June, we did a three-month-long from Farm to Forest fundraiser for the Burmese refugees who fled to the border of Thailand due to political violence. Although the news no longer appears in mainstream media, the fight still goes on, and a stream of people fleeing to the border continues.
Our NGO friends who work there, said there are approximately 7000 refugees under their care right now. 3000 of which stay around the border and many are still hiding in the forest. Most of the refugees are women, children, and the elderly from Karen ethnic minority group. Their living condition is not the best and with the spread of COVID-19, the situation is getting worse. Hundreds of them are tested COVID-19 positive and have to stay in camping tents for social distancing. Meanwhile, food and medical supplies are in high demand.
Thanks to many of you who support us with this campaign, we are able to raise a few hundred dollars, which we have donated to the cause via Thai Volunteer Service where our friends work. This amount is spent on infant formula, food, medical supplies, and the logistic expenses incurred due to delivery
For us, it may seem a small effort to make, but for them and the people who are working in the area, this donation is greatly appreciated. As we are now reaching the middle of 2021, we are still thinking of what more we can do to help these people. If you are with us and have any ideas, please don’t hesitate to give us a shout.
