Make-Do-without Self-Care Tips during the Circuit Breaker
When you hear self-care tips during the Circuit Breaker, what actually comes to your mind? Is it about food security, is it what you need to follow the new routine, or how to take care of yourself? Today we have come up with a few self-care tips that you don’t have to spend big bucks on during this CB period. So, check it out!
It’s undeniable that COVID-19 has changed life for a lot of people; instead of being pampered by the thought that resources are always available, we are starting to realize that things may not necessarily be available when we need them. With the logistics disruptions, shipments of food, supplies, and other things are in delay. Even if you have money it doesn’t guarantee that you will be able to purchase what you need. As a result, we have had to start thinking about how to make do without certain things that we took for granted in the past. That’s why we are coming up with self-care tips during this hard time!
Today we are going to explore the idea of self-care without buying. Below are a few ideas we have come up with. Some of these we already do on the farm. Not all of these ideas will apply to you, but feel free to try and see what works. With the circuit breaker in effect, you won’t be judged and it might be a good time to start to experiment living with less.
1) No-Poo Method Hair Wash:
No-Poo means washing your hair without any chemical shampoo. In other words, you can use shampoo alternatives to wash your hair like water only, baking soda, Apple Cider Vinegar, lime juice, or rice water. You can even try making your own No-Poo Head to Toe Wash by following this instruction. Another good thing about this is that removing the chemicals means hair conditioner is no longer needed!
2) Soap-Free Body Wash**
In Thailand, soap was not introduced until about 80 years ago. What people used before was either water only, rice water, ash powder or even bean powder. They didn’t have to buy soap but simply used things from the kitchen. Maybe we can try that now too! Another good thing about it is that by removing the soap, your skin does not become dry. Hence moisturizer is not needed!
3) Toothpaste-Free
Many toothpastes contain SLS or SLES, the foaming agent that is harmful for your oral health. So if you start to make your own toothpaste, you can avoid the harmful chemicals and be sure of what is in it. The recipe only requires baking powder, mint oil, and coconut oil. Or else you can simply use only water to brush your teeth. The trick is to make sure you brush every angle of your teeth thoroughly. You can see for yourself whether it works!
4) No More Makeup Remover:
Although during this circuit breaker, many of you won’t be going out, some of you might still wear makeup because you have video meetings, or simply because you want to maintain some sense of normalcy. If this is the case for you, you can find a makeup removal alternative at home. Most makeups are oil-based and oil bonds with oil. So simply apply oil on your beautiful face and wipe out with cotton balls. Then wash off with water mixed with mung bean or rice powder to remove any residual oils. Your face will feel as clean as can be. Since our No-Poo Head-to-Toe Wash contains essential oils, it can be used as an oil-based makeup remover as well!
5) Homemade Facial Mask:
Do you know that your kitchen has all you need for a face mask? Simple things like milk, yogurt, rice powder, honey, or even cucumber puree can be applied as a face mask. The cooling nature of these edibles will make your skin feel fresh, smooth, and beautiful in no time.
We hope the list of self-care tips above is useful during this circuit breaker period. As mentioned, you may think some of the ideas are a bit weird, but trust us. We use the above and it feels amazing.
In the end, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So now that you are safe at home, nobody else is judging you apart from yourself. Open yourself up to the new world of body and self-care that is not only safe to your body but also to your wallet!
